How to Stop All-or-Nothing Eating Once and For All

Being a perfectionist is encouraged in this day and age. It means you will study harder for your tests and aim for the perfect scores, that you will strive to be the best in sports, and that you will always be punctual and meet all deadlines in the workplace.

As much as this can be good, when it comes to diets and lifestyle, it makes you think and act in polar opposites:

I’m either on a diet, or I’m off it. It’s not just women who are affected by the highly body-conscious culture we live in, but men as well, and all-or-nothing attitude isn’t always helpful.

Have healthy snacks

One of the reasons why many people cheat on their diets and then throw in the towel is because they have cravings for sweet or savory treats.

It’s easy to eat a candy bar, an ice cream, or a bag of salty potato chips for a snack, but if you know you’re going to eat an entire junk food meal afterward, you better pack your pantry with healthy snacks instead.

Make sure you have plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables in your house, and when you feel like eating something sweet, dip them in honey or plain dark chocolate.

You can also make your own potato chips, granola and protein bars, and even a low-calorie pizza with a cauliflower crust.

Experiment with recipes and spices

People are tempted to cheat on their diet because the food they’re eating is less than satisfactory. Who in the world wouldn’t be sick of boring old lettuce, egg whites, unseasoned chicken, and steamed broccoli? Eating healthy doesn’t mean eating food that’s bland and boring.

Luckily, there are so many both healthy and delicious food recipes and spices out there that you might actually start enjoying your diet. There are many different ways to prepare delicious low-calorie dishes that you will never get bored eating.

Don’t forget that some of the best and the most famous chefs and food aficionados in the world are men, so try experimenting with recipes by Gordon Ramsay, Jamie Oliver, Anthony Bourdain, or Boby Flay.

Plan your meals

When you’re very hungry, and there’s nothing in your fridge, what are you going to do? While ordering a pizza when you’re starving might seem like a solid plan, you can also have healthy meals delivered in Sydney instead.

This might require a bit more planning, but having a healthy meal in your fridge will stop you from ordering takeout when you’re hungry. This will take some more time and effort on your part, but be aware that people most often “slip” in their diets when they’re hungry and don’t have time to plan and prepare a healthy meal.

Besides, pre-planned meals will do wonders for your weight and shape, especially if you’re also going to the gym.

Practice self-control

Australian parties are wild and fun, and it’s easy to reach for another glass of wine or another piece of barbecued ribs when you’re having a good time with your friends, but you should practice your self-control.

Should you eat more ice-cream and another piece of cake? Probably not. But if you do it anyway, do you have to binge-eat everything in your path for the rest of the week just so you can start dieting again on Monday? Definitely not.

Instead of indulging in a big portion of barbecue and a huge piece of cake, you could have a small one of each. Balance and self-control will help you reach your goal much faster than that all-or-nothing attitude.

Change your mind(set)

This is the most difficult yet the most important step of the way. You probably know this already in the back of your mind, but just because you slip, it doesn’t mean that everything you’ve so far is irrelevant.

If you go out and grab a beer at a bar with your friends with some peanuts and popcorn while watching a game, it will not set you back.

Remember, just because you’ve eaten a salad for lunch one day, it doesn’t mean that your lifestyle is healthy, and vice versa – one junk food meal won’t cancel weeks and months of hard work and dieting on your part.

Perfectionism is an admirable trait indeed, but if you’re not careful, you are going to end up living a very unhealthy lifestyle.

People slip up and make mistakes from time to time, but that doesn’t mean that all your hard work and dedication should fly out the window. Stopping this dieting mindset is not an easy task, but if you make an effort to change it, you will live a much healthier and happier life as a result.
