How often do you see a movie character who is nothing but confident? He feels great about himself, and throughout the story, he manages to get his dream job, be surrounded by friends, and get the girl/boy too!
Of course, this is not real life, but just because it is movieland, that doesn’t mean you can’t try and achieve the same in your own life.
Being confident and having confidence in yourself doesn’t always come naturally to you and some men worry that if they are sure, they will come across as smarmy, smug or arrogant. However, this doesn’t have to be the case.
Confidence can bring about good things in life, even if it is just some kind of belief in what you can do. So, how you do find it? How do you develop it, and how can you be more confident?
Create a vision of your future
Sometimes the best way to have confidence in what you can achieve is to think about the future and where you want to be. That way, you have something to focus on and work towards.
It isn’t always easy to create a vision of your future; however, there are some things that you can do to make it easier. You need to consider what you want your future to look like; if you already have some goals in mind, then it might be wise to think about whether or not they have worked out and if it is time to let go of and replace them.
Once you know what you want to achieve, you can tell yourself that you will eventually get there and that it will be worth the hard work in the end.
Learn more about yourself
If you want to find ways to feel more confident, you will know what it is that you should be confident about. You can guess what your strengths are, but, in reality, the best way to know this for sure is to take the time to learn about yourself.
What do you enjoy doing? What do you do well? What do you find more challenging? Identifying these key aspects of yourself is going to help you formulate some idea of who you are and what you can achieve when you put your mind to it.
If you really don’t feel that you can answer these questions, it is always best to ask those around you. The chances are that they will be able to identify things about you that you didn’t even consider and help you to understand what it is that makes you so special.
Don’t be afraid to act
It is one thing to feel confident and tell yourself that you can achieve great things, but it is another thing to go out and make it happen. We all feel frightened of what we need to do and how we may fare at it, but the age-old saying is correct. You never know unless you try.
Simply taking action on your goals is the first step to feeling more confident. Sure, you may fail or make mistakes along the way, but everyone is a chance to grow and change. Not only will you feel better in your own ability, but you will also be able to build up your resilience too.
The important thing to remember is that these acts don’t need to be huge. Taking even the smallest of steps can do wonders for your self-esteem, which, in turn, will make you much more likely to want to make huge jumps later on when you really need it.
Never fear failure
We have already touched on failure and how it can be part and parcel of trying. However, it is always worthwhile reminding yourself that failure is not something that you should fear.
Not being able to do something that we want to do or finding it trickier than we anticipated is our chance to grow. It might not feel like it at the time, but these hurdles are our chance to learn more about who we are.
As well as this, if you fail at something that you really want but you pick yourself up and dust yourself off, you know that truly is something that you should keep working to achieve.
Look after yourself
Think back to a time when perhaps you were not looking after yourself as well as you should. Maybe you were experiencing a high level of stress in your life, or you were focusing most of your efforts elsewhere?
There are many reasons why you may have let things slip, but the vital thing to try and do is remember why (and how) you should take care of your own needs. For the most part, these are basic things that you should be doing every day to ensure that you feel healthy and grounded.
It could be small things such as exercising or getting some fresh air or much more important things, such as learning a new skill or playing a sport that you enjoy.
Not looking after yourself is a sure-fire way to feel negatively about yourself as a person. However, the good news is that turning it around and surrounding yourself with plenty of good feelings is going to get you quickly back on the straight and narrow.
Say no to settling
It is all too common that men work towards a goal, get partly there and then just decide to settle where they are. Of course, it makes sense to be happy with where you are, but imagine what you could achieve if you just took one step further.
Being brave and taking a risk will make sure that you feel fabulous and be 100% confident in yourself as a person and your ability. It might not always work out, but it is much better than being sat stale in life.
As you can see, confidence is something that you may find that you will need to work at. It is going to take time and effort to get there, but we promise you that when you find that inner confident man, you will be able to use this strength to push through even the hardest of times.
